Pilâtre de Rosier and the Marquis d'Arlandes were the first men to rise in the air. On November 21, 1783 they made a journey of about ten kilometers that lasted 20 to 25 minutes. The aeronauts had exceeded a thousand meters of altitude.
Wanting to evoke through Tintin, the history of the means of transport, peoples, countries..., Hergé develops the Chromos project with the help of E.P. Jacobs.
The first images appeared in 1946 in the Tintin newspaper and the chromos can be obtained in exchange for Tintin stamps.
The project was initially broader and became the history of the means of transport.
The 300 existing chromos are signed Hergé and appear in 2 stages.
Firstly in collaboration with E.P.Jacobs appear the series AÉROSTATION and THE FER CHEMINS
Then in collaboration with J.Martin, the series L'AUTOMOBILE DES ORIGINES in 1900 was published. THE AVIATION WAR 1939-45,THE AVIATION ORIGINS TO 1914. THE NAVY OF ORIGINS TO 1700. THE NAVY FROM 1700 TO 1800
