Created in 1937 by Father Charles-Émile Gadbois, Editions de la bonne chanson disseminated French song and folklore in Quebec in order to counter the ever-increasing popularity of American song.
All the texts and melodies of the editions of the good song were of Catholic inspiration and aimed to promote family values.
The good song appeared on the curriculum of all Quebec primary schools.
