The Tintype process was developed by the french Adolphe Alexander Martin (1824-1896) looking for a process to enhance the work of engraving on plates for the printer
The tintype used a photosensitive collodion base as the ambrotype. It is spread on a sheet of 0.15 mm thick iron which was previously covered with black glaze.
Simple, quick, inexpensive, the Tintype will be a huge commercial success and will last until the eve of world war in Europe.
Like other types of black and white images, the tintypes can enhanced colors applied by brush by artisans photographers.
